How the TIME FLIES® Road Trip Game Came to Be

How the TIME FLIES® Road Trip Game Came to Be

Where it all started with ☝️.

Before our family would go on road trips, I would search high and low for games and ways to keep the kids (then 5 and 7) off screens and interacting with each other and us NICELY.

I kept printing out bingo cards, license plate coloring, maps, trying to play Uno and yet my kids would play them for SECONDS and be done.

Our conversations of “are we there yet, Mom?", “um no honey it's only been 30 minutes. We have 10 more hours to go.” Let the whining begin😩.

A piece of my soul would hurt when I saw my kids becoming zombies from their heads staring down at screens, me staring at my phone, while my husband drove.

Where's the connection? Where's the fun? This is the time when we have no outside distractions, so why are we becoming numb by technology and just coexisting?

And that's when my 3rd baby started to develop. I had never created a game before, but I had taught/played many games in class when I was a teacher, played many games with my kids, and knew my background in graphic design would be useful.

The TIME FLIES seed was planted 🌱.

One problem with kids on road trips is they get restless = add creative/fun ways for kids to move their bodies while seated to the game ✅.

Another problem is they get bored fast =  add ways to get their minds and bodies working in a way where they want to keep playing to the game ✅.

My least favorite problem on a road trip is the b-i-c-k-e-r-i-n-g. “Mom she took my marker! Mom, he told me I'm stupid." =  add elements where they show kindness and humor to each other and us to the game ✅.
The seed grew and grew thanks to all the families that tested the game even in the early stages.

🙏 A special thanks to my son's kindergarten teacher who drew the road trip symbols and doodles that are on the cards and box.
🙏 And to all the teachers who gave me feedback on how to add more education to make the best road trip game for ages 6-12 and adults!

This game didn't happen overnight, but I'm so glad it's here to share with all of you!

If your family or a family you know goes on road trips/long drives, check out this awesome game that will add so much fun and funny to their lives. I pinky promise. 😉
